Invest in your writing and your blog
While a somewhat questionable strategy for some people, a great way to motivate yourself is to literally force yourself into doing something.
I can feel some of you furrowing your brow at the idea of this.
I know this doesn’t sound too pleasant and can potentially lead to burnout which is a very real condition for a lot of entrepreneurs.
The remedy in this case is to set small goals and to pace yourself. Kind of like training for a marathon. I don’t mean to handcuff yourself to your chair for ten hours writing blog posts.
After all blogging is a long game.
Conditioning yourself to focus on a goal no matter how small and making yourself complete small tasks building up to greater ones each day can help condition you to reach additional levels.
After all, no one starts out training for a triathalong by expecting to be able to complete 100 push ups or run 5 miles the first week.
Learn how to push through episodes of discomfort, but step away from the laptop and take some mental breathers here and there if you feel yourself getting too overwhelmed and disconnected.

For many bloggers myself included, thinking about my audience pushes me to write more valuable content I think they want to read about.
How do I know what my audience wants to read about most? I look at my insights. Don’t ignore them. Data will paint a clear picture of what your readers want most.
Sometimes investing time, effort and money into your website can actually push you to write more content.
In other words, you’re far more likely to be motivated if there’s something on the line.
A lot of bloggers will say that they don’t invest money in their blog but the truth is that to have a successful blog and website you do need to put a certain amount of resources into it to keep it going and build it up to a certain level.
I have recently put a lot more money into my blog in terms of PPC and Pinterest ads and have seen a definite impact.
Now this also means that I have to step up my game as well.
Investing in certain things helps your blog to grow and ultimately produce revenue for you in the long run. Unless you don’t want to monetize it then of course that’s up to you.
A good example would be to run a digital competitor analysis, or having a professional blog or website audit if you been at this for a while and are still not receiving an adequate amount of traffic to your site.
Or perhaps try running some promotional ads on Pinterest or Google, or even hiring a skilled website designer or developer to create a unique page for your blog to capture more leads.
More traffic, more visitors, more visitors more conversions. It also helps me gain exposure to other opportunities for partnerships with major companies.
However, if you are receiving traffic and no conversions that’s another perfect reason for a blog audit. To see why people are going to your site but leaving without making a purchase.
All these tactics will help your website stand out to the audience you’re trying to attract, and it also means you’ve invested in to your blog.

Money is one of the most common motivators that we rely on to keep us going. Luckily, there are plenty of opportunities to monetize a blog which gives you a higher potential income.

- Affiliate marketing is one of the most common ways to monetize your blog if you talk about products that are sold on other websites.
- Advertising is a traditional method of monetizing a blog that doesn’t bring much income unless you have a high number of viewers.
- Selling eBooks, guides or instructional videos is a popular way to monetize your blog if you have enough material to compile into these sources.
- Offering lessons or courses is a great idea if you have professional knowledge or experience on a subject. It’s like offering courses, only that it’s on your blog instead of a learning service. - Selling products or services is a highly effective way to monetize your blog if you write about things that involve products that have to be purchased. - Sponsorships are a great way to make money from each post if you’re willing to work with brands as an influencer.
- Guest posting can be effective if you find websites or other bloggers that are willing to pay for you to write for them.
- Patreon is becoming increasingly popular as a way for people to make money from their blog. It’s essentially a subscription service that your readers pay for, giving them access to anything that you decide. It could be a second personal blog, prize draws, early access to your posts or even just a shout out to acknowledge their support.
Learn to express yourself instead of just following trends
If money doesn’t motivate you and you don’t like the idea of forcing yourself to write, then you could always write simply because you’re extremely passionate about a topic.
A lot of bloggers tend to lose focus when it comes to writing.
While they might start with honest intentions, such as spreading a message or entertaining their readers, they might start to get disengaged when they realize how much work it is.
Blogging takes time and it can realistically take 1, 2 years or sometimes even longer for it to catch on.
Of course there are some blogs that are in hot niches and gain popularity much more quickly.
You don’t have to reinvent the wheel and buck the hot trends, but you do have to write about something you find fascinating.

In other words don’t just blog about beauty products because you see other bloggers making hundreds of thousands of dollars doing it. Yes, the thought can be tempting, but if you don’t have an absolute diehard love of all things cosmetic related your readers will quickly pick up on this and your blog will fail!
Having an engaged audience who is really tuned into your blog posts will definitely motivate you to write more consistently.
The best thing for me is when I get a sweet comment on one of my blog posts that I’ve really helped someone. Those are the best!
Keep track of all your gains
A lot of bloggers fail to keep track of the gains they have accrued. When you sit down and look back at a year of progress, what do you see? You might realize that you’ve actually made a considerable amount of progress that you should be proud of.
Remember all that you’ve learned compared to where you were at the beginning of your journey!
Instead of trying to focus on big goals, focus on smaller ones and keep track of the little victories you grab.
Whether it’s another 10 views on your website or 2 positive comments on your blog, every little victory should help you feel more positive about your future as a blogger.
When you start to appreciate these small gains, you’ll feel more motivated to continue writing.
Focus on growing your audience
At the end of the day, many of us write to entertain, enrich ourselves or educate an audience. If that audience isn’t there, then it’s understandable you might have a lack of motivation.
As such, it’s crucial to focus on ways to grow your audience so you have people that are willing to read what you’re writing.
This can generally be achieved in two ways. First, you can focus on chasing a more popular trend (that interests you) and writing about topics that are popular and evergreen – meaning they never go out of style.
This will help your website stand out and will certainly draw in readers. Why? Because even though it’s trending and people are used to reading about it it’s not written in your voice, with your style, your passion, tone, conviction, flavor and panache!
